So the decluttering saga continues! I feel like I blog about this more than any.other.topic. Unfortunately, part of having a large family means having a lot of stuff sometimes. We did a HUGE declutter before we left Ohio and I am so glad we did. As we were unpacking the 10,000 pounds of stuff off the TWO trucks it took to bring our things I kept thinking, "I do not regret one thing I got rid of". I kept this statement in mind as I set about decluttering a week or so ago. I am getting rid of things I've held onto since Ashton was a baby. Mostly it's craft stuff that I think the kids would enjoy (and they would if I actually ever remembered that I had it), and a lot of books that they like, but we just don't have room for. Sometimes it's depressing since they're books that Ashton had loved and they'd become sentimental. Oh well, I just don't have room for sentiment anymore. I know the housing in Hawaii will be even smaller than here and we're busting at the seams. I've been pretty ruthless on our clothes and have been going through winter things that we won't need in Hawaii. Thankfully, I find this process fun or I think we'd need 2 houses to hold our stuff!
There are only about 2 more weeks until the movers come to take our things on their long journey. I have a lot to do by then! Pack the summer type clothes we will need when we get to HI and are waiting for our stuff, separate out clothes to wear while we're here and at my parents until December, and figure out what to keep and what to send. Not to mention someone keep the movers from packing the "keep" stuff. Over the past few days I've sorted out everyone's winter things into piles making sure they each have boots, hats, gloves, snowsuits and 2 coats. Today I had each child bring me a plastic grocery bag and I put the snow pants, boots, gloves and hats into it. They brought the bag and their coats up to their rooms and I hung the coats and bags up in their closets. Pretty sure I should have done that at the end of winter instead of just putting all the winter stuff in bins!
This weekend Thea and Mareea are going to their first birthday party! I'm so excited. It's a princess theme and we made "sparkly, pink, princess play-doh" to give to the birthday girl. I always use Angel's recipe and love it. The girls and I made it together today and added: pink food coloring, lavender essential oil and silver glitter. We'll also give her some paints and ceramic baked goods. Is it bad that the paints and ceramic figures were things I found while cleaning out? They're new in the package and I'd just bought them and forgotten!
Only two more weeks of Wednesday Madness and I'm pretty excited for it to be over. Not sure if I've blogged about it, but on Wednesday we have gymnastics, then Ashton's swimming, then Thea's swimming, then Ashton and Landon's soccer practice and then Daddy's flag football games. I did it this way on purpose. I just wanted to have activities one night a week. Unfortunately, piano is the next afternoon, but only for an hour and the other kids and I can hang out at Barnes and Noble until they're done. In two more weeks we will be done with all the YMCA activities and Daddy's football will be over. I'm debating whether or not to continue with any of the activities, and at this point don't think I will. It's hard though...the kids love them and Thea's gymnastics teacher seems to think she has a special talent. I guess we'll have to decide soon since registration has already started.
That's about it over here. Looking forward to the weekend!!
