When we got to the Island I bought some super cheap laundry detergent for $2.99 a bottle. I think there are like 35 loads each bottle. It ended up working fine and I decided to buy 3 of them when we moved into the new house. It's been working fine and I'm now on the last bottle. A friend of mine, Christine, has been using homemade detergent and loving it for some time now. I really trust her homemaking abilities (clothes I lent to her came back looking exactly like I sent them and I know she used them!) and so I'm going to try it, too! I think it will be even cheaper than my cheapie laundry detergent, but I'm mostly excited about less chemicals and fragrances. I also found this diy oxy clean recipe to try. I'll try it out as our stain remover and hopefully it will replace the expensive and very unnatural Shout I currently use.
If I can find the soap it calls for, I'm also going to make this baby wash. It will be much cheaper than buying Burt's bees or California Baby for the girls. I'm wondering if I can do it with any natural soap bar and make some for the boys and myself, too. I would imagine so. If I try it I'll let you know!
Hopefully these things will help save some money around here. If you'd seen our electric bill you'd know why I'm thinking about that! :)

I about freaked when I got my gas bill here. I have it at 62 all day, every day. Still insane. I try to save on food as much as possible. I plan my meals for the week so nothing goes to waste! I just get similar ingredients for very different meals, and it works out pretty well.
