Mr. Gideon will be 6 weeks tomorrow and it seems we're settling in nicely to the routine with a new baby. Gideon seems to have gotten his days and nights straightened out. A couple nights this week he actually went to bed (in the swing) at 8pm. Last night however, he held out until midnight...perhaps he wanted to ring in the new year! After he finally went to bed at midnight he slept until 6:30! I was so thankful for that. Normally he eats at 11pm wakes up at 3:30 and then again at 7ish. He sleeps in bed with me and seems to like being close to mama at night. Honestly, I'm loving co-sleeping and am thankful I can. Now that I'm able to nurse lying down we're getting some good sleep!
During the day he is a really good baby. He started smiling at us around 3 weeks. He smiled at Daddy first, then his sisters and finally at me! He's smiling more now and especially likes to show us some smiles when he wakes up in the morning. The evenings are a little bit of a fussy time. My other babies were fussy for several hours in the evening, but Gid is usually just fussy between ten and eleven. Sometimes we give him gripe water to help his tummy and it seems to help within about 5 minutes. I'm also giving him probiotics in the morning and evening.
The other children are just in love with him. They even shared a cold with him :( Ashton decided to spend all his birthday money on buying some new clothes for Gideon. We went to the resale shop Once Upon A Child and he was able to get several outfits. He picked out some cute stuff! It was fun to watch him check the tag to make sure the outfit was the right size and see if it was on sale or not. I love that they love their baby so much.
We're doing well with our eat, play, sleep routine. Gid is so alert after eating and then eventually starts to get fussy when he gets tired. I swaddle him and carry him around or rock him on my chest in the rocking chair and he falls asleep pretty easily. He was sleeping on his tummy on the couch, but now that he has a cold he sleeps in the swing where he can be propped up to help his nose drain.
Monday Dan goes back to work and we'll be in school mode again. I'm scared, but we'll figure it out.
