Making skirts for the girls

I am so very, very excited!  We have finally fixed my blog so that I can post pictures and have spaces and indentions where I want them.  It was getting quite frustrating since my blog is sort of my "scrapbook" and way of remembering and recording our life and adventures.  Thank you very much to my hubby for installing Firefox so things would work right!

So skirts.  We visited the base thrift shop for the first time last Thursday.  They had some fabric pieces for sale and I found a cute dolphin and hibiscus fabric for $1.  When I got it home it appeared to be about 1 1/2 yards.  maybe 2?  I'm not sure!  Anyway, I stared at it for awhile trying to "gain inspiration" and finally decided to make some tiered skirts that I had seen and been thinking about making for oh...4 years now!  I can't believe how easy they were!  I didn't follow any tutorial, I just made the top piece the size I would for a regular elastic waisted skirt and gathered each tier.  Mareea has a tiered skirt from Gymboree that I used for some measurments.  I made Mareea's skirt first and then Thea's.  So Thea's has less mistakes, but both look pretty cute.

The fabric.  Blurry pic...it's cuter than this

I plan to make some more of these. I will use coordinating fabrics for the tiers next time and use a fabric that I can more easily find a shirt to match. I was excited to see that I could actually make these, though...and at less than a dollar for each I think we did OK!
