Guess who went out without kids twice this week? No idea? OK, I'll tell you....ME!!! Well, I brought Gid for the first one since he needed to eat while I was there. I had emailed a contact about the spouse's club homeschooling group. I found out that they don't meet over the summer, but that there was another group of homeschool moms getting together. Dan pushed me to go and I'm so glad I did. I met 5 other wonderful ladies who all homeschool and had great advise about living in this area and lots of curriculum ideas. And they were Christian! It was wonderful. Sometimes I go to group things like that and I can feel an undercurrent of competition between the ladies. Like...should I talk to you? I don't think she's pretty enough for me to be friends with sort of thing. This was nothing like that. Open, kind and helpful are the best words I can think of to describe these ladies. I look forward to getting together again! One of the ladies suggested getting my boys and her children together and we met today at our house. The kids had a blast. Ashton was so excited for them to come. He kept looking at his watch and giving me updates on the time and how long it would be before they got here. The boys had a great time playing legos and we went out to eat afterwards together.
This evening I went to a spouse's thing at Dan's school. It was to familiarize us with the school and what our husbands are doing. They also had some people from the base (MWR, Navy Fed, Fleet and Family Support) talk to us about what they have to offer. I was able to chat with some nice ladies too and hope to get to know some of them better in the future.
My kids were pretty confused about me not being around. Ashton told me not to go to the meetings anymore :( I missed him, too, but I think it's important for me to get out and learn the information I did and to be encouraged by other homeschooling moms. Dan has been so supportive and happy to watch the kids for me. I have a hard time not feeling guilty for leaving them, but twice in oh...the last 3 years isn't too much right?
