Ah, sweet summer! Time for sunny weather, trips to the water and extra time for creativity. I love having something tangible to show for my days and summer allows me to do that with so much more freedom. I've been looking around for some fun activities to do this summer. Here's what we have so far.
The local library story time and summer reading program. The reading program itself is pretty lame (just has the kids read 6 books over the summer), but the weekly preschool story time will be about a different country each week.
Container gardening. We planted some more plants today. The children love digging in the soil with shovels and using the watering can. The olders love the actual planting and watching it all grow.
Fruit and vegetable painting on our left over packing paper.
Cardboard box castle
Journaling daily. Some with prompts and some just about what we did.
A summer reading program of our own to earn prizes from mom and dad.
Flower box
Flower stained glass for our front windows
Make paper mache...haven't done this since 5th grade and would like to try it again with the kids.
Make a bird feeder or 2.
Can tomato sauce
Dry basil and cilantro and put it in jars to use throughout the year
Pounded flower prints from the May family fun magazine
Moth watching from the May family fun magazine
Start some Christmas presents. Fingerprint stationary. Homemade Italian dressing. Foot scrubs. Homemade play-doh.
Read some of the books on this waldorf reading list
Doesn't this fairy garden look cute? While I'm not overly into mythical creatures, it would be fun to make a decorative garden for an outdoor/nature-ish art project.
Make strawberry jam from strawberries we pick
Bake and cook new things
Meet some new friends
