I woke up excited today. It's my birthday! Normally, I'd be super upset about getting older, but I decided to look at it in a different way. Birthday's are a celebration of life. So I'm going to celebrate the past year. I've been so blessed, no serious medical issues for me or my family, a wonderful new baby, good friends made in Ohio, etc.
The boys baked me a cake. It just came out of the oven and smells so good. They made it from scratch which is a first for us. Next they're going to make the icing (also from scratch) and I can't wait to try it. I wanted to help them, but they wouldn't let me. Q said that the little boys gave him more trouble than help and I reminded him what good practice he was getting for parenthood! It's not about the help they can give, but about them learning and feeling involved in the process.
We went to the base thrift store today. I really like it there. It's not the best one I've even been to, but it certainly has the best prices! I got several receiving blankets to make into diapers for Eryn's baby (who is a GIRL) and some cute clothes also. We found a couple of canning jars to put our dried basil and cilantro into for a quarter each and Thea got a new back pack for $1. I only allowed the purchase of the back pack since we use them to pack for short trips. The one she has now is too small so we'll get rid of that one and just keep the stylish Wall-E one. Never mind that I was going to buy her this super cute purse with a ribbon and a "t" on it...she had to have Wall-E instead. Oh well, it'll be more useful anyway.
It's a perfect day outside. It's sunny with a nice breeze and around 76 degrees. Who could ask for anything better? When Dan gets home I think we'll go out to eat. I was planning on making Mrs. Doughman's soup for dinner, but I think we'll have that tomorrow. We're thinking about Outback for my birthday dinner.
